Between Wines and History

Between Wines and History

0€ per person

The Beira Interior region is the highest wine region in the country, surrounded by the Estrela, Marofa and Malcata mountain ranges, meaning that we find vineyards at an altitude of about 700 metres. Its high quality wines portray the legacy left by our ancestors from Roman times, who also devoted so much of their time to the cultivation and production of wine. Later, in the Middle Ages, in the 12th century, the Cistercian Order promoted the dissemination and implementation of new wine production techniques. Unique, high quality wines are produced here, with high levels of complexity, resulting from the harsh climate and granite or schist soils.

Visit and wine tasting
Visit an estate located on the southern slope of the Serra da Estrela mountains, surrounded by a stunning landscape and atmosphere. A corner composed of land for rye cultivation, vineyards and land tenants' houses, which has been gaining prominence throughout history and the legends that have arisen, due to the quality of the wines produced there.
Lunch in Sortelha
Lunch in a traditional restaurant, a space which raises memories of times gone past, with a rural, cosy and family atmosphere. Here, centuries-old recipes are prepared based on characteristic products of the region, where smoked sausages are preferred and excellent meat is chosen as the main dish, in particular game.
Guided visit to the Historical Village of Sortelha
Visit to the village of Sortelha, one of the oldest villages in Portugal and one of the few that has kept its medieval appearance to this day. In times gone by, traces of the Roman presence were still found from the Porta Poente Gate to the fountain of Azenha. Its imposing castle, built in the Middle Ages, has been classified as a National Monument since 1910. There is nothing better to enrich the experience than trying the delicious sweetcorn porridge, one of the typical desserts of the region, which is due to the evident production of corn in the municipality of Sabugal.
